So… usually I do urban scenes… but lately I’ve been dipping slightly into the suburban scenes. Not that the suburbs interest me all that much, but, when my mom was dying over the past summer, I spent a lot of time in Orange County, so some of it bubbled up into some of my pieces.
This drawing wasn’t all that compelling… It’s that green woman I do over and over. Some symmetry… a halo. It wasn’t working so much, then I added a whole lot of diagonal hatching (mostly I do a lot of vertical hatching) and it got a place with some character and complexity. The hatching spilled over the edges of the piece, so I ended up playing with that… maybe it works.
