Here are a couple of drawings (in ink and watercolor) of folks enjoying public spaces in New York City. The drawing above will be auctioned at an upcoming benefit for Streetmedia – ie: Streetsblog and Streetfilms. If you like the piece, and you’re up for it, attend the Street of Dreams event: Friday October 26th 2012 7-9:30pm at WNYC’s The Greene Space – 44 Charlton Street (at Varick Street) in New York City. Share and rsvp here on Facebook.
The above drawing is on Broadway at 34th Street, which is Herald Square. The NYCDOT has done a great job of taking space away from cars and giving it to pedestrians and cyclists. It’s been fun to tour these and observe how well used they are.
Below is a similar space near the Flatiron building, at Broadway and 23rd Street.

Flatiron Plaza – Broadway at 23rd – New York City, ink and watercolor on paper, 11 October 2012, 10″x7″
and for posterity, here are photos of the intersections and photos of the drawings before I started painting.
Note that the people and the lighting change over time, so the photo images don’t look exactly like the drawings.
