Some pieces from 2001.

Susanna and the Elders (after Artemisia Gentileschi), 7 December 2001, ink and watercolor on paper, 12"x9"
Interesting play with the frame. Based on a great painting by Artemisia Gentileschi. The piece was part of a show I had at Skylight Books. The show was called Urban Spaces.

Woman (head), 8 August 2001, ink and watercolor on paper, 12"x9"
This one is sort of interestingly overworked.

skylight books…. isn’t that the one on vermont and sunset
yes – it’s on Vermont, just above Sunset.
I very much like your “Susanna and the Elders” – I take it to be a visual ‘argument’ that modern-day men should stop harassing younger women. I was a writing teacher for 38 yrs. and also have written lots of literary and art criticism about the purposes and strategies of literature and art. Best Regards!

Dave – thanks for your comment. It does say some of what you mention about harassment – which has apparently been an issue for the more than 2000 years that the Susanna story has been around. It’s also a tribute to the art of Artemisia Gentileschi. Putting it on the street in my neighborhood, Koreatown, sort of says that big heroic stories play out in ordinary places.
I am curious: how you found this piece? It’s sort of buried here, and I didn’t think a lot of folks ever notice it.
