Woman and Man – 17 September 2011

Woman and Man, 17 September 2011, India ink and watercolor on paper, about 4"x10"

I initially painted the woman in green, then the man in yellow… worked on them, then decided to add more folks in the background. I think it turned out pretty well.

I used to do quite a few crowd scenes, I think around the early 90s… after getting inspired by James Ensor’s painting Christ’s Entry into Brussels (my favorite work of art at the Getty Museum.) It takes a while to draw/paint… but they work. I used a little bit of atmospheric perspective here – stuff further away becomes more blue, stuff closer is more vivid, more warm.

Includes my theme of green women.
